Setting / Era: Opening night of the Importance of Being Earnest (14th Feb 1895, St James’s Theatre, London).

The amnesiac Doctor runs into Oscar Wilde, who helps him to recover some things about himself, with the help of a mysterious voice-stealing alien, of course. This is all good fun, rather charming, and with a great final line.

Title: Moon Landing (four different views)
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2930
Characters: Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones
Setting / Era: Earth and its satellite in 1969

Not strictly a straight historical, but a lovely fun fic in which Martha and the Doctor get to see the moon landing four different times.

Title: Even the Smallest Ripple
Author: aces
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2510
Characters: Eighth Doctor, Fitz Kreiner, Sam Jones
Setting / Era: 1858 The Lincoln-Douglass debates, Galesburg

This is lovely – a small moment in history; Sam and Fitz not quite behaving in period, and Fitz being bored at the speeches, and, yes. Lovely.

AD 64: Rome

Title: Amor estVitae Essentia
Author: bibliophile1887
Rating: All ages / PG
Word Count: 3558
Characters: Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton, First Doctor, Vicki

Title: Natural Principles
Author: Arcadias Fire
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 968
Characters: Third Doctor
Setting / Era: 1600s

The Third Doctor meets an unhappy schoolboy in 17th C England and lends a hand. There’s lots to like in this ( ‘I guess’ from the schoolboy is a slip, but that’s mere pedantry from me and this is charming & not without proper historical knowledge of the subject in question).

1869, Utah

Title: Promontory Point
Author: aces
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2217
Characters: Fifth Doctor, Peri Brown, Erimem
Setting / Era: 1869 Promontory Point, Utah

Five, Peri and Erimem have a bomb to surreptiously remove. This is sweet and fun and, after the brief moment of danger and business as usual, a genuine bit of historical sight-seeing.

1950s Oxford

Title: Mythic Overtones
Author: tree_and_leaf
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 726
Characters: The Doctor, CS Lewis, Other Characters
Setting / Era: 1950s Oxford

This is a short and lovely fic in so many ways, and to say too much would be to spoil things, so I won’t. But it’s definitely a gem.

So maybe these should be contemporary for a 1960s-era Doctor, but, heigh-ho…

1980: New York

Title: History in the Making
Author: RamblingRose
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 871
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler
Setting / Era: New York, December 1980

Nine, Rose, and the assassination of John Lennon. What makes this very short fic a bit special is the mixed-up musing on history, right and wrong, and time travel that it fits in without being didactic. Nice work.
